Early 1800s papier mache tray. With oil painting of Turnberry Castle. Marked 'Turnbergh' Castle on the reverse. The image was originally produced by David Octavius Hill along with 59 other oil paintings from which lithographs were taken to illustrate the 1841 publiction of the book 'Land Of Burns' . One of the other oil paintings - 'The Inside Of Burn's cottage' - from which engraved illustrations for the book were taken is in the 'National Galleries Scotlant' collection. Shown next last image above is the engraving from the book. The attribution is of D.O.Hill and the printer John Horsburgh who also produced prints for JMW Turner amonst others.
